🐋 Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef

The Whitsunday Islands sit within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, offering access to some of the most pristine coral reef systems in the world.

  • The Pinnacles, Hook Island — renowned for manta ray sightings, especially during the cooler months (May–September). Coral gardens and abundant fish life.
  • Hardy Reef & Bait Reef — outer reef sites with dramatic wall drops, pelagic fish and crystal-clear visibility.
  • Blue Pearl Bay, Hayman Island — sheltered bay with coral bommies, tropical fish and friendly potato cod.
  • Manta Rays & Sea Turtles — the Whitsundays are one of Queensland's best locations for swimming alongside manta rays and green sea turtles.
  • Coral Gardens — snorkel over healthy coral formations teeming with clownfish, angelfish, butterflyfish and reef sharks.

🎣 Fishing the Whitsundays

The Whitsunday Islands offer exceptional fishing grounds, from inshore reef species to pelagic sport fish on the outer reef edge.

  • Giant Trevally (GT) — one of the most sought-after sport fish in the Whitsundays. Powerful, aggressive and an absolute thrill on rod and reel.
  • Coral Trout & Red Emperor — prized table fish found on the reef edges and bommies.
  • Mackerel & Tuna — pelagic species that follow bait schools along current lines and reef edges.
  • All gear included — rods, reels, tackle and bait provided. Your crew knows the best spots.
  • Catch & cook — fresh fish caught during the day can be prepared for dinner by the crew.

🏝 Island Exploration

With 74 islands in the Whitsunday group, there's always a new beach, bay or viewpoint to discover.

  • Whitehaven Beach — 7km of pure white silica sand, consistently ranked among the world's best beaches. The sand is 98% pure silica.
  • Hill Inlet — the stunning swirl of turquoise water and white sand at the northern end of Whitehaven Beach. Best viewed from the lookout above.
  • Hamilton Island — a resort island with restaurants, bars and marina facilities. Pick-up and drop-off point for charters.
  • Airlie Beach — the mainland gateway to the Whitsundays with cafes, bars and the Port of Airlie marina. Primary departure point.

Sample 5-Night Itinerary

Every charter is tailored to your interests and weather conditions, but here's what a typical 5-night Whitsunday expedition looks like. We adjust the route based on wind, tides and what you most want to experience — more snorkelling, more fishing, or just more time on Whitehaven Beach.

Day 1

Departure & First Snorkel

Board at Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island. Set sail through the Whitsunday Passage, anchoring at a sheltered bay off Hook Island or Whitsunday Island. Afternoon snorkel at The Pinnacles — coral gardens, reef fish and a chance of manta rays. Sunset drinks on deck, dinner prepared by the crew.

Day 2

Whitehaven Beach & Hill Inlet

Morning visit to Whitehaven Beach — 7km of pure white silica sand, ranked among the world's best beaches. Short hike to the Hill Inlet lookout for the famous turquoise swirl. Afternoon sail to an outer reef snorkel site or fish the bommies for coral trout. Overnight in a secluded anchorage.

Day 3

Fishing & Outer Reefs

Early start for fishing — target Giant Trevally on the reef edges, coral trout and red emperor on the bommies. Mid-morning snorkel at Hardy Reef or Bait Reef for pelagic fish and dramatic wall drops. Afternoon exploration of a new island bay via tender. Fresh fish dinner caught that day.

Day 4

Turtles & Mantas

Visit known turtle and manta ray sites around Hook and Border Islands. Snorkel alongside green sea turtles and, if lucky, the majestic manta rays that frequent these waters during cooler months. Afternoon island hike or beach combing. Final sunset anchorage.

Day 5

Final Sail & Return

Leisurely morning swim, breakfast on deck, then a relaxed sail back through the islands. Arrive at Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island by late morning. Disembark with incredible memories of the Great Barrier Reef.

This is a sample itinerary only — every charter is tailored to your interests, weather conditions and what you want to see and do.

Meals & Catering

🍚 3 Meals Per Day, Per Person

Three delicious meals are prepared daily by your crew. Think fresh fruit and cooked breakfasts, substantial lunches, and hearty dinners — often featuring fresh fish caught during the day. All dietary requirements catered for with advance notice.

🍼 Water & Soft Drinks Included

Bottled water, soft drinks and basic refreshments are stocked on board. Tea and coffee available anytime from the galley.

🍻 BYO Alcohol — No Corkage

Bring your own drinks aboard — beer, wine, spirits, whatever you like. We provide Esky space, ice and glassware at no extra charge. No corkage fees, no restrictions.

🍫 Catch & Cook

Any fish caught during the trip can be filleted and prepared by the crew for lunch or dinner. Nothing beats fresh coral trout or mackerel straight from the reef to the plate.

Whitsunday Charter FAQs

When is the best time to charter in the Whitsundays?
We operate Whitsunday charters during the winter and spring months (typically June through October). This is when conditions are ideal — southeast trade winds provide consistent sailing, water visibility is at its best (15-25m), and stinger (jellyfish) risk is minimal. Temperatures are mild and comfortable (20-26°C), making it perfect for snorkelling, fishing and island exploration.
Where do charters depart from?
We can depart from either Airlie Beach (Port of Airlie marina) or Hamilton Island (marina). Airlie Beach is the mainland gateway with easy access via Proserpine Airport (approx 30 minutes). Hamilton Island has its own airport with direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns. Let us know your preference when enquiring.
How many guests can sleep on board?
The boat has 2 queen-sized cabins and accommodates a maximum of 4-5 guests for overnight stays. This ensures a comfortable, uncrowded experience with plenty of space for everyone on deck and below.
What's included in the price?
Your charter includes exclusive use of the boat, 2 crew members (skipper and deckhand), 3 meals per day per person, water and some soft drinks, all snorkelling and fishing equipment, Starlink WiFi, tender service, fuel and marina fees. You just need to bring your own alcohol and personal gear.
Can I BYO alcohol?
Yes — bring your own alcohol on board. We provide Esky space, ice and glassware at no extra cost. There are no corkage fees or restrictions. Just drink responsibly and follow the skipper's safety instructions.
Do I need snorkelling or fishing experience?
Not at all. Your crew will guide you to the best snorkelling sites and provide all gear. For fishing, rods, tackle and bait are included, and your skipper knows the best spots for GTs, coral trout and reef fish. Beginners and experienced anglers are both welcome.
What should I bring?
Pack light — swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a warm layer for evenings, comfortable deck shoes, and any personal toiletries. All linens and towels are provided. Bring your own alcohol if desired. A detailed packing list will be sent after booking.
Are these charters safe?
Safety is our top priority. Your skipper holds commercial qualifications and extensive experience in the Whitsundays. The boat is fully surveyed and equipped with safety gear including life rafts, EPIRB, first aid and marine radios. All activities are weather-dependent and at the skipper's discretion.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The Whitsundays have many sheltered anchorages, so we can almost always find calm water. If weather conditions are unsafe, we'll adjust the itinerary or, in rare cases, reschedule. Your safety is always the first priority.
How do I book?
Enquire through our booking page with your preferred dates and trip length. We'll confirm availability, discuss your itinerary preferences and provide a quote. A deposit secures your dates. Available winter and spring months only.
